This song is from one of the most famous Bollywood movies of modern times, Kal Ho Na Ho. The theme for this movie, and the song, drew inspiration from Akira Kurosawa's Ikiru 1952.The movie Kal Ho Na Ho is about two people growing up with family difficulties who fall in love. However, the main character can not marry the love of his life, because he has a secret. He is dying. This theme and storyline was presented to the three songwriters for this movie, Shankar Ehsaan Loy. They struggled for a while to come up with the perfect title song for this movie, but decided to draw inspiration from My Heart Will Go On from The Titanic. After lots of trial and error, the song idea was finally composed and produced at a German Bakery during brunch by Loy Mendonsa, one of the three music directors for this movie, and went on to become a popular song worldwide. The song basically spreads the message of appreciating what you have today because you don’t know what you might have or not have tomorrow. Many people don’t realize that the underlying topic behind this idea is that of death, and how it can suddenly take away so many things from a person and the lives of family members and others that they care about.
